Around 4-years ago when I took my first ever trip to Paris as a fashion student I hunted down Guerrisol thrift store after reading about it in a shopping guide.
It was described as having ‘more of a whiffy jumble-sale flavour’ but that designers looked for inspiration here and that bargains were guaranteed. So, off I went, in search of adventure and about 20€ later I had bought bags full. Cute red leather court shoes and black patent ones at 5€ each, breton striped tops which have remained favourites in my wardrobe for a mere 1€ each and more.
My friend and I must have spent hours in the grubby little treasure trove. At the time it felt like a well kept vintage secret but when I returned this summer I was a little disappointed. I’d found out there were numerous branches across the city now, however the first one I tried was closed for a refurb.
Back at the original location I was sad to see it had undergone a refit with what looked like the shelving from closed down branches Woolworths. And also (possibly due to having 3 other stores) the stock seemed thinner on the ground, no longer were the shoe shelves stuffed and the rails so full you couldn’t look at anything, everything was neatly hung and lacking in adventure. They still had a good rail of fur coats (sadly too bulky to carry home), jeans and lots of ladies blouses but bags, shoes and boots were few. It seemed like Paris was well aware of the amazing finds to be had there now.
On the bright side I still found some bargains to take home to London. I bought a couple of blouses for €3 each, some Anges b high waisted black trousers, high-waisted black jeans and some very ‘Chloe’ blue high-waisted jeans with big turn ups (all €1.50).
Other vintage shops in Paris which I would recommend are; Kiliwatch
which is well known but a bit on the overpriced side, Free P Star which was so busy we could hardly look at anything and King of Frip is also worth taking a look.
